The Smile Hotel in Nishi Akashi is a solid choice if you're looking to avoid the chaotic booking scene in Kyoto, especially during cherry blossom season. The room rates are quite reasonable and the breakfast was genuinely excellent. It's super convenient being just a few minutes from the JR station, making travel to Kyoto a breeze. However, I was surprised by the high price for laundry services which felt a bit steep. The immediate area around the hotel doesn't offer much to see, but I did stumble upon a cozy bar nearby that had great local vibes.
